RESTORATION & CONSERVATION

PRESERVING FAMILY TRADITIONS

Since 1938, we have, as a family tradition, repaired, restored and conserved ironwork across the region with a high degree of craftsmanship and diligence or attention to detail. Our clients have ranged from large country estates to private individuals who wish to have their historic ironwork preserved to extend its life in either its historic setting or new place of home. We always endeavour to find the best solution to protection and preservation of your historic piece of ironwork, from the initial work through to the final coatings and finishes to show the piece off to its finest qualities and usage.

What is Restoration and Conservation?

The restoration and conservation of metals is the activity devoted to the protection and preservation of historical (religious, artistic, technical and ethnographic) and archaeological objects made partly or entirely of metal. This includes all the activities aimed at preventing or slowing deterioration of items, as well as, improving accessibility and readability of them as objects of cultural heritage. Despite the fact that metals are generally considered as relatively permanent and stable materials, in contact with the environmental elements they deteriorate gradually, some faster and some much slower.  This applies especially to archaeological finds.
